Group fitness classes can help you get in shape and lose weight quickly. They offer a great workout for the whole body. But, as with all things in life, you only get what you put into them. Here are some tips to maximize your time in a group fitness class!
Get There Early
You may be tempted to arrive early for class for many reasons. Perhaps you don’t like wearing glasses to exercise. A spot at the front of the class will allow you to see the instructor clearly. Perhaps you just need some extra time to relax after a long day. Maybe you prefer a longer warm-up than the one the instructor gives during class. Perhaps you’d like to add some cardio or strength training before class to enhance the workout.
It doesn’t matter what reason you have, it is a good idea to show up early to class. Although fitness classes may not be the same as youth sports, the principle that “if you arrive early, you are on time” still applies. You won’t be ready to start if you rush in just as the instructor begins the first moves. You’ll feel at ease even if you arrive a little early, which is not much in the grand scheme.
Make Sure You Are Prepared
There is nothing worse than starting a workout only to find out you don’t have enough water. You might need a towel. Your sneakers. For boxing classes, gloves are a must. You may also need any other equipment that is necessary to be successful. As the Boy Scouts advise, be prepared. You can plan ahead for your needs and bring a bag with you to work. You’ll be ready for anything later by simply throwing it in your car while you go on errands and leave for work.
Push Yourself
Group fitness classes have a lot of benefits. You can be accountable to another person (the instructor). Keep pushing yourself to the limit and working hard during class. You should not push yourself beyond your limits. If you have to modify a move or decrease your intensity for a short time, you can do so. But remember that you still need to complete the class.
Enjoy The Community
A great benefit to a fitness class is also the social aspect. You’re surrounded by like-minded people who are just as challenged or silly no matter how difficult or silly-feeling the exercise is. No matter how many times you have been to classes, you will find someone who is exactly like you. Make the most of the opportunity to meet, chat, and share your experience with others before or during class. This makes it more enjoyable.

Find The Right Classes
Some group fitness classes are not right for you. You might love Yoga’s calming challenge, or you may find it difficult to flow from one move to the next. You might feel like you aren’t as coordinated or skilled in dance-fitness classes. It’s OK. It doesn’t matter what fitness trends or celebrity recommendations you follow, it’s OK not to love a particular class. Just keep trying new formats until you find the one you love.
Plan The Time
First, schedule time to take group fitness classes. You’ll be more likely to make it a priority as if it were an item on your agenda. You will give your best to others by making your health a priority.
